Welcome to Bessarabian Clues!

Thank you for stopping by and share my excitement about finding the story behind the paternal side of my family. My grandparents Yoil Bronstein and Lise Kaufman were born in Bessarabia, Romania. This exotic and remote place on earth is now located in the Northern part of the Republic of Moldova.

In looking for Bessarabian clues you will follow me in doing the unthinkable in order to discover the untraceable and lost in time information about their lives and the destiny of their relatives before WWI and WWII. Also, you will accompany me in finding out their exact place of birth, their shtetl (Jewish village), important documents, their travel routes, lost gravestones, and tales. I have lots of inconclusive questions left untold as you can see. This urge to uncover the truth behind the closed lips of my grandfather has been with me since my childhood and created an inner drive that has only been eased with the coming of the internet. Through it I have been able to find some precious details but I have not been able to solved all my questions yet. All I possess until now are pieces of information I call “life puzzle”, no photos to hold on and some records recovered while others are lost forever.

I know I am not alone in this journey because I am with you, fellow genealogist. Therefore, I wish to take you with me along this discovery trip by stepping in an imaginary time travel capsule which will take us back and forth between the now and the beginning of last century and to rejoice together and celebrate when I will discover a new clue and a new path to follow in this relentless and unstoppable search.

Please share with me this adventure and come along this wandering path, along the rivers Pruth and Dniester, in the now and then of my family past. Let’s look for the untraceable pieces of this life puzzle together, let’s make the impossible a possible and let’s start the search for the Bessarabian clues.
